Winter in the Austrian lake district
Suggested Programme
Arrival and dinner at your hotel.
Hallstatt is maybe the most photographed village in the Salzkammergut region. Located on a picturesque lake you can enjoy a walk through the town before taking a ride up the Salzbergbahn funicular to the panoramic bridge and platform.
Experience a bird’s eye “World Heritage View” of Hallstatt at 360m above the valley floor. Your day also includes a visit to the Kaiservilla in Bad Ischl, the former summer capital of the great Austro-Hungarian Monarchy.
Enjoy a visit to the Kremsmünster Abbey where we recommend a guide tour of the museum before traveling along the banks of Lake Traunsee to the famous town of St. Wolfgang for a coffee and cake in the famous White Horse Inn. You then start back to your hotel traveling past Lake Wolfgang and Lake Mondsee.
Travel to the Town of Gmunden, consider to be the home of traditional Austrian pottery. During your visit, you can take part in a tour of the Gmunder manufacturers, the largest ceramic-manufacturer in central Europe.
Experience up close how the famous Gmundner Keramik products are made: from the blank shape to the finished painted, fired piece. The whole process takes place 100% in Gmunden, and has done so since 1492.
Travel to the city of Linz where we suggest a short guided tour before taking a trip up the “Postling” hill with the “Postlingberg” train for some spectacular views.
Depart for your trip home after breakfast.
