Suggested Programme

Day 1

Arrival and dinner at your hotel.

Day 2

Travel to Schärding, a small town with a pretty, baroque centre. A unique experience awaits you: Board the brewery ship where you will see a demonstration of how beer is brewed. Afterwards embark on a 2-hour cruise along the river Inn almost as far as Passau and back. During the cruise beer will be brewed and you will have the opportunity to taste it. It is also possible to have lunch on board. Head to Passau next, just across the German border. Explore the “City of Three Rivers” at the confluence of the Danube, the Inn and the Ilz with a city guide.

Day 3

Take a day trip into the Bohemian part of the Czech Republic and the historic towns connected by the “national river”, the Vltava. Visit České Budějovice, home to the Budvar brewery, where we recommend a guided city tour and a visit of the beer brewery. Then continue to the town of Český Krumlov, a picturesque gem and one of the most popular places in Central Europe. We suggest a guided tour and a visit to the majestic castle which is a UNESCO World Heritage site. If time permits you can go to Seidl’s Photo Studio to learn all there is to know about the history of the art of photography. You can even have your picture taken in historical costume. On the way back to Austria we recommend stopping at the Lipno Dam, an artificial lake created by damming the waters of the Vltava. Why not enjoy a boat cruise here?

Day 4

Make your way to the city of Steyr where the rivers Steyr and Enns meet. Here you can take the Steyrtalbahn, a historic narrow- gauge railway, to Grünburg (subject to the train’s timetable). Afterwards head to Linz, Upper Austria’s capital, for a guided city tour. Enjoy some free time in this city on the banks of the Danube. We recommend you visit one of the many museums, such as the art museum LENTOS or the Ars Electronica Center, also known as the “Museum of the Future”.

Day 5
