The Salzkammergut is Austria’s lake country, an area of stunning natural beauty steeped in thousands of years of human history: from the Bronze and Iron Age burial fields and salt mines to mediaeval towns and Imperial villas. In the pre-Christmas seasons, when the nights are long and dark, the lakes come to life with countless lights and lanterns of breath-taking sizes, giving the whole area a mystical and magical atmosphere.

Day 1

Arrival at your hotel.

Day 2

Your first stop will be picturesque St. Wolfgang on the shore of the lake Wolfgangsee. Continue by boat across the dark, clear Waters of the lake to St. Gilgen. Take in the atmosphere enhanced by the impressive floating lanterns, the sound of festive music and the sweet and spicy smell of gingerbread and mulled wine. Journey on to the lake Wallersee and Gut Aiderbichl, a former farming estate that was turned into a pet sanctuary.

Day 3

Visit Gmunden, a town famous for its very distinct style of traditional Austrian pottery. Take a tour of the Gmundner manufactory, the largest ceramic-manufacturer in central Europe, and learn how pottery has been made here since 1492. Afterwards continue along the lake Traunsee to Bad Ischl. Admire the Kaiservilla, the Imperial villa, before your journey takes you onwards to Hallstatt. Probably the most photographed village in the area, Hallstatt is of a UNESCO world heritage site that has fascinated visitors from all over the world so much that an exact (mirrored) copy was constructed in China.
