Industrial Monuments Route in Upper Silesia

Would you like to take a trip on a narrow gauge railway, or discover how coal and silver are mined, and how drinking water and beer are produced? If yes, then this is the tour for you, you will learn, invent, visit and relax while enjoying some of the major industrial key points of the region.

Suggested Programme

Day 1

Arrival and dinner at your hotel.

Day 2

Start your trip with a ride on the Narrow gauge railway from Bytom to Tarnowski Góry followed by a visit to the silver mine. The silver mine is a labyrinth of underground tunnels with a 300m long underground lake, which you discover by boat, and a steam engine museum, and is a magnet for all tourists to the region.

Other highlights of the region are there for you to discover. The wooden antenna tower of Gliwice, with 111m it is a testimony to the courage of the builders and is top of the world list of highest wooden structures.

In Zabrze you can visit the Maciej Shaft complex with its hoist tower. Also on the programme is the underground shaft (320m) of the “Guido” coalmine. On this day your lunch will also be served under the earth’s surface.

Day 3

Enjoy a tour to Tychy, where you can discover the Duke’s Brewery, which was established in year 1629. During your Brewery visit, you will become acquainted with its History and contemporary times and, of course, enjoy a beer tasting.

A city tour of Katowice is planned and a visit to the Nikiszowiec settlement and nearby Giszowiec, both ranking among the most interesting labour settlements in Europe and dating from the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries.
