Suggested Programme
Arrival and dinner at your hotel.
During a historical tour of Munich, your guide introduces you in the city’s history from its foundation in the Middle Ages to the times of the two World Wars and its development as a modern city in the present.
In the afternoon, you travel to Dachau in the northwest of Munich. There, you will be confronted with one of the darkest chapters in Munich’s history. You visit the site of the former concentration camp in Dachau, where thousands of people died during the time of the National Socialism between 1933 and 1945.
Wander on the traces of the Wittelsbach family, the former rulers of Bavaria, and visit Nymphenburg Palace, which is a baroque palace in the city of Munich. It has been the main summer residence of the House of Wittelsbach.
In the afternoon, you can discover more of Munich on your own. Another option is a visit of the “NS-Dokumentationszentrum” museum, which focuses on the history of the region during World War I and World War II and especially on the history and the consequences of the Nazi regime.
Travel to Berchtesgaden in the Bavarian Alps and enjoy the beautiful nature during a boat trip on Lake Königssee.
Furthermore, you can learn more of the history of the National Socialism at Eagle’s Nest, which has been a birthday present for Adolf Hitler and a place for him to entertain visiting dignitaries, or at “Dokumentationszentrum Obersalzberg”, which is located on the former ground of Hitler’s home in the Bavarian Alps.
Alternatively, you can also travel to Lake Chiemsee and make a boat trip to Herreninsel Island. There, you visit Herrenchiemsee Palace, which has been built by King Ludwig II of Bavaria according to the Palace of Versailles.
A guided walk in Linz will introduce you to the cultural and historical highlights of Linz with the possibility to savour one of the most famous cakes in the world – the Linzer Torte – in one of the excellent Cafés.
Later, you have the possibility to discover more of Linz on your own. Highlights are amongst others the unique Arts Electronica Center or a ride on Europe’s steepest train to the pilgrimage church at the top of Pöstlingberg.
A visit of the museum of contemporary history at voestalpine, which is a historical exhibit covering the time period between 1938 and 1945, is also highly recommended.
Depart for your trip home after breakfast.
