Highlights of South Tyrol
Discover South Tyrol, imbedded between Austria and Italy this is a region with a great deal to offer; wine, festivals, lakes and mountains.
Suggested Programme
Arrival and dinner at your hotel.
Travel to the town of Bolzano where your city guide will meet you. During your tour, you will discover the highlights and secrets of the medieval town centre, where the cold North meets the warm South.
Bolzano is the capital of the Alto Adige region and is famous for its town museum, which houses the 5,000-year-old mummy – Otzi (the iceman). Bolzano is also a wine-lovers paradise with many vineyards mixed with the flowering orchards, so before returning to your hotel you will be able to enjoy a wine tasting of some of the region’s best wines.
We recommend a trip to the city and region of Meran where you can enjoy palm and olive trees in the valleys and glaciers on the surrounding mountains.
Meran is a town of contrasts, and it invites you to explore its streets and squares. Enjoy a guided tour of the city or take a stroll at your own pace or just sit and enjoy a coffee and cake in one of the cafés.
In the afternoon, we recommend a visit to the spectacular gardens of Trauttmansdorff Castle.
A scenic tour of the local countryside is always worthwhile. The tour goes through the Gardena valley, past Saint Ulrich, known for its wood sculptures, the Sella-massif and the Pordoi pass, to the famous ski resort of Cortina d’Ampezzo in the middle of the Dolomites.
On your trip, you will have plenty of photo opportunities for spectacular pictures of jagged snow-capped peaks, luscious green meadows and pretty towns and villages.
Make a journey to Riva del Garda where you can enjoy the azure of the water and sky, the green of the Mediterranean vegetation with its olive and lemon trees, the yellow of the sun and the white of the beaches, which are littered with surfboards.
In the city centre, you can discover the ancient cities history. The Rocca (city fortress) is always worth a visit. Here you will find the urban museum (Museo Civico) and the picture gallery, the Torre Apponale (anno 1220), the Palazzo Pretorio (anno 1375) and the city hall (built between 1200 and the end of the 15th century).
