Grand Tour of Austria
Austria has a great deal to offer: historic cities, imposing fortresses, magnificent mountains and sparkling lakes and on this tour, you will get to see some of these highlights and hidden treasures.
Suggested Programme
Arrival and dinner at your hotel.
Discover the city of Salzburg, home to Mozart and „The Sound of Music“, where we recommend taking a guided tour to learn more of the cities secrets.
Also highly recommended is a ride up to the spectacular fortress, Hohensalzburg, which sits high above the rooftops of the city.
Visit the waltzing city of Vienna, enroute drive through the picturesque wine valley of Austria, the Wachau, the romantic stretch of the Danube between Krems and Melk. Why not visit the magnificent abbey of Melk and stop in the small market town of Krems?
If you have time, we recommend a wine-tasting, a boat trip on the Danube or a visit to the lovely village of Dürnstein, where King Richard the Lionheart was held prisoner.
Why not enjoy some of the highlights and hidden points of interest of Vienna with a tour guide before having free time to explore further on your own.
Not to be missed is a visit to the spectacular „Schönbrunn Palace“ with its wonderful gardens and excellent zoo.
In the evening, we recommend a traditional meal in a „Heuriger“ (wine tavern) in Vienna.
Travel to the green hills and sparkling lakes of Carinthia. On the way we recommend a visit to the city of Graz, cultural city of Europe in 2003 and/or the „Lippizaner“ stud farm of Piber. The stud farm is the birthplace of the famous „Lippizaner“ horses of the Spanish Riding School of Vienna.
A visit to Austria would not be complete without a visit to its highest mountain, the Grossglockner.
Your journey takes you over the impressive mountain road to the lakeside town of Zell am See. Sit back and enjoy the magnificent views before enjoying some free time in Zell am See.
Austria and the Tyrol have been historical centre points of Europe for many centuries and you can find fortresses, castles and ruins along the Inn valley.
One spectacular fortress is Tratzberg castle. This majestic and romantic fortress sits atop a massive rock ledge and commands a breath-taking view of the Inn Valley. Travellers can spot the 500-year-old stately structure from a great distance. Taking the time to visit this architectural jewel will be well worth your while as it is considered one of the most beautiful, late gothic castles in all of Europe.
Depart for your trip home after breakfast.
